The history of Catellani & Smith

Enzo Catellani began producing lamps without suspecting that he would ever sell them. When his lamps met with enthusiasm, he did not even know how to mass produce them. So in 1989, Catellani & Smith was founded. In the early years of the company, Enzo Catellani pretended that Logan Smith was a London architect, even though that was the name of his horse at the time. In this way, he wanted to establish credibility on the one hand, and on the other, ensure that the entire focus was not on him alone. Enzo Catellani likes to downplay his creations, although he gives them his full commitment. He doesn't title himself as an artist or designer, but as someone who makes what he likes. Since 1989, the business has grown to incorporate new technologies. But what remains the same is that Catellani & Smith lamps are still made by hand in Italy on the Serio River.
